Abstract:

Background   In respect to abnormalities in thalassemia patients and the effects of TNF_α, IL_6, and NT-pro-BNP on echocardiography findings the study aimed to investigate TNF_α, NT-pro-BNP and IL_6 correlations with Doppler tissue imaging findings in major thalassemia.   Materials and Methods:  This case-control study was performed on 112 healthy children and 112 patients with thalassemia in Ali Asghar hospital, Zahedan, Iran, in 2017. Healthy children were selected from those that referred to the pediatric clinics for routine check-up. Fasting blood samples were taken to measure TNF-α, NT-pro-BNP and IL_6 serums. Those thalassemia patients who had regular transfusions of hemoglobin higher than 10 g/dl and 48-72 h after packed red blood cell transfusion and those who were asymptomatic were entered to the study. Participants underwent echocardiography by pediatric cardiologist in Doppler method.   Results: NT-pro-BNP, TNF_α and IL_6 were lower in controls (P<0.001). Height, weight and BMI were higher in controls (P<0.001). Right ET, left ET, IVSD, PWD, PWS, EF, FS, left ET', left ICT', left IRT', right ET', right IRT', right S', right Peak A', VE', VA', left and right MPI', LVMI were different in case and control (P<0.05). Right Peak A (P=0.049), PWD (P=0.032), Left MPI' (P=0.02) and LVMI (P=0.005) were correlated with IL_6. IVSD (P=0.01), LVDS (P=0.01), EF and FS (P<0.001), left ET' (P=0.02), left ICT' (P<0.001), right ET' (P=0.001), right S' (P=0.002), left MPI’ (P<0.010) were correlated with NT-pro-BNP.   Conclusion   NT-pro-BNP, TNF_α, IL_6 were higher in thalassemia patients and NT- pro-BNP was correlated with some of the echocardiography findings. This suggests that NT-pro-BNP would be the best biomarker for evaluation of cardiac functions in thalassemia patients.

Evaluation of Serum Levels of N-terminal Pro Brain Natriuretic Peptide and Atrial Natriuretic Peptide in Neonates with Respiratory Distress

Background: Acute respiratory distress (ARD) is a critical respiratory failure due to lung injury of neonates leading to the clinical appearance of poor lung compliance. The aimed of the study was to evaluate the diagnostic values in differentiating respiratory from heart diseases with using of N-terminal pro brain natriuretic peptide (NT-pro BNP) and Atrial natriuretic peptide(ANP) in neonates...

Evaluation of Brain Natriuretic Peptide, Tumor Necrosis Factor and Interleukin-6 Plasma Levels in Infants and Children with Congenital Heart Disease

Background Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common cause of major congenital birth defect. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of CHD with serum levels of Tumor necrosis factor-α (TNFα), Interleukin 6 (IL-6), and B-type Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) in infant and children. Materials and Methods The present study was conducted in Heshmat heart hospital and 17 Shahrivar...

بررسی ارتباط سطح سرمی N-terminal Pro-brain Natriuretic Peptide و شدت پره‌اکلامپسی

Background and purpose: Preeclampsia is a serious condition in pregnancy. Previous studies have shown that NT-pro BNP level is higher in preeclamptic patients than that in pregnant women with normal blood pressure. Severity of preeclampsia is one of the critical factors in managing patients, so, this study aimed at investigating the relationship between the level of NT-pro BNP and severity of ...

Diagnostic Value of N Terminal Pro B Type Natriuretic Peptide (NT-pro BNP) in Cardiac Involvement in Patients with Beta- Thalassemia

Background Heart failure is a major cause of death in thalassemia. The study aimed to determine the diagnostic value of N Terminal Pro B Type Natriuretic Peptide (NT-pro BNP), to early diagnose the cardiac involvement in beta- thalassemia major patients. Materials and Methods  80 thalassemia patients aged 7 to 18 years old (patients group), and 80 healthy age and gender matched controls were ...

N-terminal Pro-Brain Natriuretic Peptide And Atrial Fibrillation

NT-proBNP is produced from both atria and ventricles. The primary regulation of production is at the synthesis level. The plasma half-life of NT-proBNP is 60-120 min. Cutoff value of NT-proBNP for diagnosis of heart failure is 125 pg/ml in the age group below 75 years and 450 pg/ml in the age group above 75 years. It increases in atrial fibrillation and drops after successful cardioversion. Hig...
